Field Status: When the Town opens the fields for any season, we are allowed to use them on a daily basis ‘weather permitting’. The Town may close fields due to poor conditions to maintain the integrity of the playing surfaces. If the playing conditions, including weather, field surface and other factors, are questionable and you're wondering if the fields are open, call 617-730-2083 or 617-730-2084 for the Town of Brookline Field Status Hotline. Call either line – they will both have the same recording. Updates are made by 8:00 am on weekends and by 3:00 pm on weekdays. If fields have been closed, this is the first and only message you will hear. If you hear regular Recreation Department program information, then the fields are open. Don’t call too early in the day because a decision may not have been posted yet. When the Town closes the fields we are not allowed to play on them under any circumstances.

If the fields have not been closed by Parks and Recreation, then coaches and umpires must decide whether to play based on their best evaluation of all playing conditions. The home team coach has authority to make these decisions until the first official pitch of the game has been thrown. After the first pitch the umpires have authority. The visiting team coach does not have authority to make decisions about playing conditions although we expect coaches to cooperate in accessing conditions and the advisability of playing.
